While browsing the “Next Blog” over at wordpress.com, came across this popular web movie called The Secret. (popular according to Alexa rankings, that is.) It costs $4.95 to watch it, and I’m not all that curious to watch it, after browsing the website’s list of secret teachers. While there may be some great human wisdom in the mix, I noticed the glaring absence of spiritual leaders. Yes, they’re happy to have philosophers and metaphysics teachers on their roster, but not spiritual? The realm of the spiritual cannot be ignored in understanding the mystery of the universe. Only looking at it through philosophy or metaphysics leaves a glaring gap.
And this is about the time of the building momentum about the new movie called The Da Vinci Code, and the stirring controversies around that. Emergesque rightly quotes Jesus Creed that many in our culture use a “hermeneutic of suspicion” and thus the desire of wanting to believe something implausible to be true.
